I came across this recipe on the internet one day and thought I would try it out. After a week of soaking, a dear friend of mine told me she was suffering from a streaming cold/flu bug and so I said I could bring some of this over to her decanted into a jar to see if it helped. Even at this early stage of soaking, it was exceptionally powerful and started working immediately. It has continued to do so since over the winter period for others I know. I have also taken it when suffering from digestive upset, with great effect! Do be aware it is “an acquired taste,”and if you are sensitive to hot foods, then this may be something best avoided as it does hit the back of the throat on swallowing!
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, except the vinegar
Transfer the mixture to a kilner jar or similar
Pour in the cider apple vinegar and fill to the top. Ensure that 2/3rds of the jar consists of the freshly prepared ingredients
Close and shake well
Keep the jar in a cool and dry place for 2 weeks, shaking several times a day
After 14 days, you can either strain the ingredients through a muslin bag and store the liquid in a clean jar, or, as I have done, you can take your dose, as required, from the jar with the ingredients intact. The latter means you can take advantage of my “tip” below
Dosing Be careful – it is VERY hot in flavour!
I have taken a 30ml dose if I have been feeling run down or suffering from a cold (a very rare occurrence!) or had an upset tummy. The first time it was used was for a friend suffering from a terrible flu-like bug – as attested by her, it is a very good “eliminator” of toxins from the body! I also have another friend, who was suffering from congestion of phlegm on her chest; this worked instantly! Be warned – this is strong stuff!
You can take one 30ml dose each day to boost your immune system if you are seriously run down. Otherwise, just keep it there and take on an ad-hoc basis if you feel it is necessary.
It is known for bringing the body into balance and countering “dis-ease”, so could be useful if you have diabetes as the properties within the spices used are believed to help bring sugar levels back into balance. Always consult a doctor before using if you do have a medical condition. Also, the ingredients are anti-inflammatory and thus analgesic, so could assist in decreasing the effects of rheumatism or arthritis.
Tip: You can keep topping up with the Apple Cider Vinegar whenever needed, as the ingredients are essentially pickled so will be highly unlikely to “go off”. Then shake it up vigorously and do so for a couple of days. I have done this myself and found the drink still greatly effective.
