Golden Turmeric Cordial

Picture
I came across a recipe for Golden Turmeric Honey on Facebook early in 2016, just made with powdered turmeric. I felt that it would be even more potent if a combination of turmeric powder; tincture and freshly juiced root as well as freshly juiced ginger was used instead. I was right! Thus the Golden Turmeric Cordial was created. It has really helped many of my friends recovering from the proverbial lurgy this winter / early spring! It literally put a spring back into their step! It is also excellent for settling a sensitive tummy; helping to alleviate constipation; IBS and also bringing in more energy into the body. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, so it is also great if you have aches and pains and/or arthritis and rheumatism. Indo-Tibetan wisdom suggest that you have it before eating - being best for throat and lungs; with food is best for the digestive system & after food is best for the colon and kidneys.

Preparation Time:- 20-30 minutes plus 2 hours “melting” time if using set honey
Quantity:-
Approximately 1 litre of cordial

Equipment
2 × 500 ml Bottles - Medium Bowl - Lemon Zester - Whisk - Small Measuring Jug - Juicer - Metric Measure Tablespoon - “Pinch” Measure Spoon (Norpro)
Ingredients:
2 lb 4 oz / 900 g Raw Honey -  1.5 oz / 30 g Turmeric Powder - 1.5 fl. oz / 30 ml Turmeric Tincture*
1.5 fl. oz / 30 ml freshly juiced Turmeric Root

“Pinch” spoon black pepper  - Zest 3 organic Lemons  - 1.5 fl. oz / 30 ml freshly juiced Ginger
1.5 fl. oz / 30 ml Kombucha ** - 3.75 fl. oz / 90 ml unfiltered Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

* See overleaf for Turmeric Tincture Recipe
** If you don't have Kombucha use 4.5 fl. oz / 120 ml Raw Apple Cider Vinegar instead

Method:

  1. Pour the honey into the bowl. If it is set honey, you will need to stand the bowl in a large container, like a preserving pan or very large pan and fill it with boiling water. Cover the bowl and container with a lid or foil and leave for two hours to allow the honey to melt to a liquid
  2. When the honey is liquid, add all the additional ingredients and mix well with the whisk
  3. Put the mixture in 500 ml bottles and store in a cool place for up to 3 weeks (don't consume it if it develops a metallic taste)
Instructions for use:
Shake the bottle of Cordial well. Squeeze half a lemon into a mug. Add 2 to 3 teaspoons Golden Turmeric Cordial then fill up with hot water. Stir well and enjoy!
Turmeric Tincture:-
Equipment:
1 x 500 g Jar -  Mini Chopping Machine - Sharp Knife - Silicone Spatula - Chopping Board
Ingredients:
200 g Fresh Turmeric Root  - 200 ml Vodka

Method:
  1. Cut the turmeric root roughly and place in the mini chopping machine. Process until fine
  2. Using the silicone spatula, pour into the jar then add the vodka
  3. Secure the top of the jar with its lid then shake to mix the vodka and turmeric together
  4. Leave for 2 weeks in a dark place
  5. Decant into a bottle to use in the Turmeric Cordial Recipe
  6. Add the same amount of vodka again to the remaining chopped turmeric and shake then leave for 2 weeks
  7. Periodically, you can add a little more fresh turmeric and more vodka to keep your stock of the tincture
